Hello from Georgetown

Image
Hello from Georgetown! We've been in Malaysia for over 10 days now, and it's been an amazing journey! We started off with three nights in Kuala Lumpur to catch up on sleep and get into the rhythm of things. Now, we're in Georgetown, Penang, and we're really loving it here. This city is so incredibly diverse. Our place is right in the middle of Little India, and from our rooftop, we can see the incredible mix of cultures and religions all around us. There’s an Indian mosque, Chinese Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, and Christian churches all within view. The call to prayer sounds five times a day—it’s a truly special and incredibly diverse area to be staying in. Across the street, we've been making friends at the local shops. One of the cashiers even stops what she is doing just to see baby Ruth and carry her around the store to engage her friends. Jeremiah has been excited to learn the names of the waiters at the restaurant and it's a real blessing w...

The Heart of Hope in Malaysia (GMama Kathy)

The Heart of Hope in Malaysia I recently had the incredible opportunity to see compassion in action here in Malaysia, thanks to the connection made by YWAM Penang . For decades, the government has denied them citizenship and treated them as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. This long history of discrimination, combined with periodic outbreaks of violence and persecution, has led to their exile. In 2017, a brutal military crackdown, described ...

A Journey of Faith and Flight: Our First Days in Malaysia

We've officially been in Malaysia for a full day, and yesterday was all about recovery. After years of family travels, I can honestly say this journey has been the most draining yet. It all began in San Diego, where we spent three days grounding ourselves as a family. We really focused on our daily routine and teamwork, a philosophy we believe can make any place in the world feel like home. I was so impressed by how well we worked together. From there, we drove to LAX for what would be an epic flight to Singapore—the fifth-longest in the world at 16 hours and 40 minutes! To top it off, I did it with a baby in my lap. After that marathon, we finally boarded the last leg of our journey to Kuala Lumpur, our current home base. Our arrival was a little rough. I was a mix of delirious, disoriented, and honestly, pretty emotional. Stepping into this new country, everything felt so foreign. I felt a powerful ache for my home and for Mexico. But this morning, we woke up, worship...
